CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Husson University women's soccer team generated five second-half shots but was unable to break through in a 2-0 loss to Lesley University in its North Atlantic Conference opener Saturday at Dilboy Stadium.
Husson (2-3-1, 0-1 NAC) kept the Lynx off the scoreboard for much of the opening half. Sophomore Gabriella Smith stopped an attempt from Meriel Wordell in the 15th minute before denying Elsie Koehler in the 31st minute to maintain the scoreless tie.
Lesley (2-3, 1-0 NAC) broke through in the 43rd minute when Cameron Wedding scored off an assist from Lily Wright, giving the Lynx a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
The Eagles began creating opportunities after the break, earning a corner kick in the 52nd minute before senior Emma Nicholson sent a shot wide.
Lesley extended its lead in the 62nd minute when Koehler found the back of the net off an assist from Wordell to make it 2-0.
Husson continued to push offensively, with senior Olivia Charles forcing Lesley goalkeeper Lloy Bartolotti into her first save of the contest in the 67th minute. Charles put another attempt on target in the 73rd minute, but Bartolotti again made the stop.
The Eagles generated two more opportunities late in the match. Charles sent a header wide following a corner kick in the 81st minute before Nicholson tested Bartolotti in the 83rd minute for Husson's final shot on goal.
Charles led the Eagles with three shots, including two on target, while Nicholson recorded two attempts and one shot on goal. Smith finished with two saves over 90 minutes.
The Eagles will remain on the road for their next contest, traveling to Bates College for a 7 p.m. matchup on Tuesday.
