PORTLAND, Maine — The Husson University women's tennis picked up its first victory of the season on Sunday, defeating Lesley University 6-1 in North Atlantic Conference action at APEX Racket Club.
Husson (1-1, 1-1 NAC) opened the match by claiming the doubles point after winning two of the three doubles matches.
Sophomores Katelyn Cotter and Sadie May rolled to a 6-1 victory over Emily Laperriere and Veronika Yufereva, while freshmen Julia Spencer and Lydia Jordan posted a 6-0 shutout against Hayley Jones and Lilah Engfer.
Lesley (1-3, 0-2 NAC) picked up its lone doubles victory as Mary Osucha and Lucy Boyce edged senior Kayla Lockhart and junior Anah Albert 7-5.
The Eagles carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of the six matches, with all five victories coming in straight sets.
Spencer turned in a dominant performance with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Emma Farris, while Cotter surrendered just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win against Jones.
Junior Mallory Beaulieu was equally impressive in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Yufereva, while Albert defeated Boyce 6-4, 6-1.
May rounded out Husson's five singles victories with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Laperriere.
Lesley's lone singles point came from Osucha, who defeated Lockhart 6-1, 6-3.
The Eagles will be in action at home for the first time this season on Friday when they take on the University of Maine at Augusta at 4 p.m.
