BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - The Husson University men's lacrosse saw its season come to an end in the opening round of the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament on Wednesday evening, falling to Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 28-17, at Clean Harbors Stadium in Massachusetts.
Mass. Maritime (16-2) raced out to a 4-0 lead in the opening five minutes before Husson (12-5) answered with a goal from sophomore Drew Clinch at the 9:09 mark of the first quarter. Senior Kiernan Field and junior Owen Giorgio followed with back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to 5-3 midway through the frame. After the Buccaneers extended their advantage to 8-3, freshman Gabe Robinson scored off an assist from Clinch before Field found the back of the net with seven seconds remaining in the quarter to send Husson into the second trailing 8-5.
The Buccaneers opened the second quarter with two quick goals before the Eagles responded behind Field and Giorgio. Field scored off a feed from Giorgio before adding another unassisted tally, and sophomore Dominic Hollenkamp finished another Giorgio assist to trim the deficit to 10-8 with 9:05 remaining in the half. Mass. Maritime closed the quarter on a 5-1 run to take a 15-9 lead into halftime.
Husson continued to battle throughout the second half as Hollenkamp scored twice in the third quarter and Field added another goal, but the Buccaneers maintained control with strong faceoff play and timely extra-man goals to carry a 21-12 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Field scored three times in the final quarter, while Giorgio added his second goal of the game, but Mass. Maritime answered each Husson push to secure the 28-17 victory.
Field led the Eagles with eight goals, setting a new program record for points in a single-season, while Giorgio recorded five points behind two goals and three assists while adding nine ground balls and five caused turnovers. Hollenkamp added three goals, while Clinch and Robinson each tallied a goal and an assist. Sophomore Drew Held also scored for Husson.
Defensively, freshman Jackson Purdy collected four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while senior Odin Burk made 18 saves in goal for the Eagles, setting a new career program record for saves in the process.
Mass. Maritime finished with advantages in shots (67-30), ground balls (71-31), and faceoffs (42-7).
With the loss, the season has come to an end for the Husson men's lacrosse team.
