BANGOR, Maine – The No. 20 Husson University softball team saw its season come to a close on Friday afternoon, falling to Colby College, 3-2, at O'Keefe Field in NCAA Regional action.
Colby (27-12) struck first in the opening inning when Emma Burnham connected on a solo home run to left center to give the Mules a 1-0 advantage. Husson (36-6) answered in the top of the second inning after senior Lydia Rice reached on an error and later scored on an RBI single up the middle from senior Tayler Watterson to tie the game at 1-1.
The Eagles took their first lead in the fourth inning. Senior Emily Dunbar drew a leadoff walk before freshman Jetta Shook doubled down the left field line to put runners at second and third. Two batters later, sophomore Allie Casavant delivered an RBI single to left field to plate Dunbar and give Husson a 2-1 edge.
Colby evened the score in the bottom of the fifth inning as Juliana Kiley drove in Julia Berry with an RBI double to center field. The game remained tied entering the seventh before Burnham delivered again for the Mules, hitting her second solo home run of the game in the bottom of the inning for the walk-off victory.
Husson recorded six hits in the contest, with Shook leading the way by going 2-for-2 with a double. Freshman Sophia Lynch and senior Morgan Tainter each doubled, while Watterson and Casavant both drove in a run.
Junior Ana Lang suffered the loss in the circle despite tossing 6.1 innings and allowing three runs while striking out two.
With the loss, the 2026 season has come to an end for the Husson University softball team.
