Senior day walk-off win caps off baseball's weekend sweep of Farmington

BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University baseball team swept a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader against the University of Maine at Farmington on Sunday afternoon at the Winkin Complex, by scores of 6-2 and 6-5 on senior day.

Game 1: Husson 6, Farmington 2
Farmington (8-22, NAC 6-11) would get on the board first in the top of the second with a two-run homer.

Husson (14-16, NAC 12-5) would answer right back in the bottom of the second, with sophomore Yates Emerson cutting the deficit in half with a one-run single, and Senior Colin Marshall would tie it up 2-2 off a sacrifice bunt.

The Eagles would grab the lead in the bottom of the fifth, first with senior Hunter Curtis hitting a sacrifice fly to left field to score one, and sophomore Trevor Poisson added a one-run single to extend it to a 4-2 lead.

Husson would tack on a couple insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth, with freshman Preston Libby hitting a one-run single of his own, and would score off a throwing error.

Six Eagles would pick up a hit in game one, with Curtis, Emerson, Libby, Marshall, and Poisson all having one RBI.

Sophomore Avery Lawrence would get the start and go the distance, pitching seven innings while only allowing two runs on two hits, and striking out six, earning the win, his first of the season.

Game 2: Husson 6, Farmington 5
The Beavers (8-23, NAC 6-12) would get out to a hot start, taking a 5-0 after the top of the third inning.

The Husson (15-16, NAC 13-6) bats would wake up in the bottom of the third, with Libby hitting a one-run triple to right center field, chipping away at the 5-1 deficit.

But the bats would fall quiet over the next two innings, and down four runs entering the bottom of the seventh, it didn't appear that the Eagles would complete the four-game sweep of Farmington.

Husson, however, had other plans and would load up the bases. Marshall would get things started with a one-run single, giving life to the Eagles.

Libby would get a shot with the bases loaded, and capitalized with his second triple of the game out to right-center field, emptying the bases and tying the game up 5-5.

The Husson bullpen would shut out the Beavers in the top of the eighth, and with the momentum on their side and the bases loaded once again, Emerson would hit a sacrifice fly out to right field, scoring the game-winning run and giving the Eagles the weekend sweep.

Libby would be the offensive leader in game two, going 3-4 with two triples and four RBIs. Marshall went 2-4 with one RBI, and Emerson would go 1-3 with one RBI as well.

Freshman Jack Karlonas got the start in game two, giving up four runs. Freshman Max Hopkins would follow, going one and two-thirds innings, allowing one run. Freshman Blake Littlefield would pitch five shutout innings, only giving up three hits and striking out seven. Junior Ryan Gardner would go one inning, striking out one and picking up the win, the second of his season.

Prior to the start of the game, Husson recognized its 2026 senior class of Keegan Cyr, Marshall, Curtis, Jack Cote, Cam Rendell, Ben Phillips, Tanner Audyatis, Joe Hamelin, Mason Cycenas-Heimer, Allen Wheaton and Max Lukeman

The Eagles will be back in action at home on Tuesday afternoon against Bates College at 3:30 p.m.
