DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Husson University baseball team fell to Marymount University (Va.), 14–3, in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at the RussMatt Invitational.
Marymount (8-5) struck first in the bottom of the opening inning, capitalizing on a leadoff walk and an error to score the game's first run before adding another on a sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 lead. The Saints added another run in the second inning after loading the bases and being hit by a pitch with two outs, extending the advantage to 3-0.
Husson (1-4) got on the board in the top of the third inning when senior Cam Rendell launched a solo home run to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Marymount responded with two runs in the bottom of the third inning, highlighted by an RBI single and a sacrifice bunt that made it 5-1. The Saints then broke the game open in the fourth inning with eight runs, including a two-run home run from Anthony Farmakides and a two-run single from Quincy Via as the lead grew to 13-1.
The Saints added another run in the fifth inning to extend their advantage to 14-1 before the Eagles plated two runs in the sixth. Freshman Casey Colby reached base on an error before junior Matt Holmes connected for a two-run home run to right field, bringing the score to 14-3.
Holmes finished 2-for-3 with a home run, double and two RBIs while Rendell added a solo homer for Husson. Sophomore Yates Emerson also recorded a double while sophomore Trevor Poisson and senior Colin Marshall each added hits for the Eagles.
Freshman Jack Karlonas took the loss for Husson after allowing three runs over two innings. Sophomore Spencer Johnson, senior Max Lukeman and sophomores Ryan Wall and Michael Skowrwon also saw time on the mound for the Eagles, with Skowrwon tossing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.
The Eagles close out their trip to Florida with a matchup against Wheaton College (Mass.) set to begin at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
