BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University men's lacrosse team opened its season Thursday afternoon in a 12-8 win over the University of Southern Maine at Boucher Field.
The Eagle (1-0) offense exploded in the first half. Freshman Gabe Robinson recorded Husson's first goal of the season, and the first of his career. Sophomore Dominic Hollenkamp recorded a hat trick in the first half, helping the Eagles to a 7-1 lead heading into the break.
The Huskies (0-1) would fight back in the third quarter, cutting the lead down to just three. Freshman Alek Duprey would score his third, and ultimately the winning, goal this period, recording the second hat trick of the game for the Eagles.
But, the Husson defense would hold strong to close the game, not allowing USM to complete the comeback. Both Robinson and senior Kiernan Field would score their second goals of the game this quarter, along with junior Owen Giorgio scoring his first of the season to close out the scoring for the Eagles.
Senior goaltender Odin Burk would stay in the net all game, making 13 saves, with the Husson defense converting 21-30 clear attempts.
The Eagles' will head on the road to Pennsylvania, where they will face Albright College, their first of a five-game road trip.
