BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball team took control in the final quarter over the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Tuesday night, as Husson won 76-58 over the Bengals at Newman Gymnasium.
Husson (15-8) would take an early 12-4 lead in the first, and held control throughout with help from eight points from sophomore Saige Evans, closing the quarter up 24-16 on 61.5% shooting from the field.
It looked as if the Eagles would close the second with another double-digit lead, but a few last-minute buckets by Fort Kent (12-11) and a poor shooting quarter from Husson would cut the lead to just seven heading into the break.
After the half, neither team could find the bottom of the net to start the third quarter until the 7:20 mark. In a similar fashion to the second, the Bengals would force turnovers and connect on shots to cut another double-digit lead by the Eagles' lead to just four, with a 53-49 lead heading into the fourth.
Husson would look like their first quarter self to close out the game, thwarting UMFK's potential comeback, and ended the game on a 23-9 run, hitting five three's in the final 10 minutes, giving the Eagles their second straight win.
Both sophomores Evans and Lilly Roy, would each end the game with 20 points, with freshman Abby Radel adding 14 of her own.
The Eagles shot 40% from the field and 39% from the three, while converting 11-15 on free throw attempts.
Husson will look to continue their winning streak Friday when they host Vermont State University Lyndon in Newman Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. in North Atlantic Conference play.
