BEVERLY, Mass. – The Conference of New England named its weekly award winners for football on Monday and Husson University football freshman Melvyn Telisca secured defensive player of the week and rookie of the week honors.
Telisca picked off two passes in Saturday's 26-21 homecoming win over Western New England University, including an 85-yard pick-six, which is the second-longest interception return for a touchdown in Husson program history. In addition to Telisca's first two collegiate interceptions, the freshman defensive back also had one solo tackle and one pass breakup in the win.
