BIDDEFORD, Maine — The Husson University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 non-conference decision to the University of New England on Thursday afternoon at the Blue Cyclone Complex.
Husson (4-2) earned its lone point of the afternoon from freshman Julia Spencer, while UNE improved to 6-3 with the victory.
The Nor'easters opened the match by claiming the doubles point with victories in all three matches.
Sophomores Katelyn Cotter and Sadie May fell 6-1 at No. 1 doubles to Andie Lamontagne and Sofia Salcedo Ladaga, while Spencer and fellow freshman Lydia Jordan dropped a 6-2 decision to Grace Catalano and Leanna Matczak at No. 2 doubles.
The Eagles' No. 3 pairing of senior Kayla Lockhart and junior Anah Albert battled Madeline Frank and Nora Hill before falling 6-4.
UNE carried its momentum into singles play, earning victories in five of the six matches.
Spencer provided the highlight for Husson at No. 6 singles, picking up a straight-set victory over Alyssa Fritschka. Spencer controlled the match from start to finish, earning a 6-3, 6-1 win to account for the Eagles' point.
At No. 1 singles, junior Mallory Beaulieu fell 6-1, 6-1 to Salcedo Ladaga, while Lockhart dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Frank at No. 2.
Cotter battled Lamontagne at No. 3 singles before falling 6-1, 6-3, while May was defeated 6-4, 6-1 by Catalano in the No. 4 position.
Albert rounded out the Husson lineup at No. 5 singles, falling 6-3, 6-1 to Hill.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday for homecoming when they host Vermont State University Johnson at 2 p.m.
