BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball program rings in the New Year with a commitment from Ava Lerman, a senior guard from Wisdom Middle/High School.
The 5'3 guard has averaged 23 points per game, 4 assists, 4 steals, 5 rebounds and surpassed the 1,000-point milestone so far this season.
Lerman has earned Bangor Daily News All-Tournament Team honors as a junior, was the Northern Maine Summer All-Star Showcase Most Valuable Player and holds the Maine High School Basketball Tournament single-game free throw record, connecting on 18/20 shots, while also being a Maine Foul Shooting finalist.
"Ava competes every day in practice, consistently puts in the extra time to improve her game and leads by example," said Wisdom Assistant Girls Basketball Coach Tracy Guerrette. "She attacks the basket well, has an excellent mid-range game, can shoot the three and plays with poise."
Lerman is a standout multi-sport athlete as well, scoring 100 career soccer goals, ranking 3rd in the state for goals in a single season (62) and earning Maine All-State and North Regional All-Star honors.
"Ava has a great stat line, she leads her team in scoring, and she has put up some big scoring numbers in multiple games this season," said Husson Head Women's Basketball Coach Kissy Walker. "Ava comes highly recommended by her coaches and she is the type of student-athlete we like to have in our program. Ava played alongside one of our current Eagles, Lilly Roy, who is having a terrific career at Husson."
Off the court, Ava is a proven leader, she serves as the National Honor Society President at Wisdom and is Class President and Student Council President.
While at Husson, Lerman plans to study nursing.
