BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball team scored the first 14 points on Monday evening and rolled to an 89-40 North Atlantic Conference win over SUNY Delhi inside Newman Gymnasium.
Husson (5-5, 4-2 NAC) got nine of its first 14 points from its dynamic duo of sophomores Lilly Roy and Saige Evans, as Evans totaled the first four points by herself and the Eagles led 23-5 after the opening quarter, holding Delhi (1-11, 0-6 NAC) scoreless for almost the first seven minutes of the contest.
The Eagles would continue to build on their lead in the second quarter and the final four points of the half would come courtesy of senior Laela Martinez to give Husson its largest lead of the game at the time headed into the locker room, leading 49-19.
Husson outscored the Broncos 18-11 in the third period and put the finishing touches on a dominant win with a 22-10 scoring edge in the final frame.
Evans led all scorers with 21 points, her third 20-point performance of the season, while also hauling in six rebounds and recording four steals.
Roy posted 19 points, in addition to adding four boards and two steals, while freshman Sophia Carnes recorded 12 points off the bench to go along with four rebounds and seven assists.
The Eagles shot 47.4% as a team for the game, including 46.2% from beyond the arc, while also connecting on 9-11 free throw attempts.
Husson held a 47-31 rebounding advantage, while also dishing out 25 assists on 37 made field goals and forcing Delhi into 30 turnovers, which led to 32 Eagle points.
The Eagles look to cap-off a conference back-to-back on Tuesday with a win over SUNY Cobleskill, the defending NAC champions, with tip-off set for 5 p.m.
