BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Husson University men's basketball team fell to Bowdoin College, 95–80, on Monday night at Morrell Gymnasium.
Husson (12-8) came out strong in the early going, trading baskets with the Polar Bears (12-6) and grabbing a brief lead midway through the first half. Junior Andre McCauley provided an early spark for the Eagles, scoring from all three levels as Husson looked to keep pace in a fast-moving opening period. Bowdoin answered behind a hot stretch from beyond the arc, using a late first-half surge to take a 50–39 advantage into the locker room.
The Polar Bears opened the second half on a decisive run, extending their lead with strong rebounding and interior scoring to push the margin to as many as 22 points. Husson continued to battle, stringing together multiple offensive possessions and cutting into the deficit with balanced scoring and trips to the free-throw line, but Bowdoin consistently answered to maintain control down the stretch.
McCauley led all Eagles with 20 points, while senior Eric Ahlers added 16 points and pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore Connor Heald chipped in 14 points along with four assists, and senior Gil Matondo finished with 12 points. Senior Ty Henke provided a boost off the bench with eight points, while freshman Christian Smith added six points.
As a team, Husson shot 42.6% from the floor and 36.4% from three-point range, while converting 14-of-17 attempts at the free-throw line. The Eagles finished with 42 total rebounds and held Bowdoin to matching field goal percentages, but were outscored in second-chance points and forced into 14 turnovers on the night.
The Eagles return to North Atlantic Conference action this weekend when they head to the University of Maine-Presque Isle on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
