WATERVILLE, Maine – The North Atlantic Conference named its weekly award winners for men's basketball on Tuesday and Husson University men's basketball senior Eric Ahlers and freshman Christian Smith were both honored.
Ahlers was named player of the week after he continued his hot streak in a 2-0 week of NAC games for Husson, as the team earned dominant wins over Thomas College and Lesley University. Ahlers dropped 25, including 17 in the second half, against Thomas, while also adding nine rebounds and two steals on an efficient 9-15 shooting. Against Lesley, Ahlers had a 22-point, 11-rebound double-double off the bench in just 25 minutes of action, shooting 9-17 from the floor, while connecting on four three-pointers in both games on the weekend.
Smith garnered a rookie of the week selection after he put together his best week in a Husson uniform thus far in the two victories over Thomas and Lesley. Against Thomas, Smith recorded seven points, two rebounds and three assists on an efficient 3-4 shooting. In Saturday's contest against Lesley, Smith finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 14 points and a career-high nine rebounds, while also adding five assists and two steals.
Additionally, senior Gil Matondo was named to the honor roll for his efforts on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, as he tallied 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and a block against Thomas, while also recording a career-high 26 points, a career-best 14 rebounds, three assists and three blocks against Lesley.
The Eagles return to action tonight against Colby College, as Husson will look to extend its six-game win streak in Waterville at 7 p.m.
