BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's volleyball team showed flashes of strong play but fell 3–0 to Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday night inside Newman Gymnasium.
The Eagles (1-11) struggled to find their rhythm in the opening set, falling 25–9, but responded with a competitive second frame before dropping it 25–14. Husson battled throughout a tightly contested third set that featured four ties and two lead changes, but Saint Joseph's (4-7) held on for a 25–16 win to seal the match.
Freshman Kate McPhee led Husson with five kills and two solo blocks for a team-high six points. Junior Janna Preskorn matched McPhee's five kills and added four digs, while junior Alana Peruti chipped in three kills and a block assist. Freshman Peyton Hooker paced the offense with 12 assists and tallied a team-best 10 digs.
Defensively, Husson recorded three team blocks, highlighted by McPhee's two and a combined block from Peruti and McPhee in the third set. Graduate student Julia Leavitt added six digs, and senior Leah Peloquin collected eight.
Husson finished with 19 kills, 39 digs and one ace, while the Monks hit .253 as a team and registered 12 service aces to keep pressure on the Eagles' defense.
The Eagles will look to rebound when they open North Atlantic Conference play this weekend against Lesley University at home at 11 a.m.
