BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's tennis secured a non-conference victory over Thomas College on Wednesday afternoon at the Bangor High School Tennis Courts by a score of 5-2.
The Eagles opened the match with singles, grabbing a critical edge right away. Senior Julia Barber was in command at No. 1, powering past Taylor Juhase 6–1, 6–2, while fellow senior Joey Lynn Ramsdell followed with a 6–1, 6–4 win at No. 2. Freshman Katelyn Cotter added a steady 6–3, 6–4 decision at No. 6 to give Husson three early points.
The most dramatic singles match came at No. 4, where sophomore Anah Albert battled back after dropping the first set 2–6. Albert forced a second-set tiebreak, took it 7–6 (7–2) and outlasted her opponent 10–8 in the super tiebreak, giving Husson its fourth singles win. Thomas countered with victories at No. 3 and No. 5 to keep the match close heading into doubles play, although the Eagles had already secured the match victory.
Husson sealed the team result by sweeping doubles. Barber and Ramsdell controlled No. 1 with a 6–4 victory, junior Kayla Lockhart and Albert cruised 6–2 at No. 2, and Cotter teamed with freshman Sadie May for a hard-fought 7–5 win at No. 3.
Husson returns to action on Saturday when it hosts SUNY Delhi for senior day at 10:00 a.m. in North Atlantic Conference play.
