FARMINGTON, Maine — The Husson University field hockey team opened Central Maine Collegiate Field Hockey Conference play in winning fashion Tuesday afternoon, earning a 2–0 road victory over the University of Maine at Farmington.
Senior forward Lauryn Brown broke a scoreless tie late in the second quarter, finishing a setup from Brianna Smith at 26:55 for her first goal of the season. Husson (2-4, 1-0 CMCFHC) doubled the lead midway through the third when senior Ruby Kitchin converted on a penalty-corner sequence off assists from juniors Tessa Capozzoli and Faith Tillotson.
The Eagles controlled play throughout, outshooting the Beavers (3-5, 0-1 CMCFHC) 13–7 and holding an 8–5 edge in penalty corners. Freshman goalkeeper Ella Duchette backstopped the shutout with six saves, while senior defender Ella Louder added a key defensive save during a flurry early in the fourth quarter.
UMaine-Farmington (3–5, 0–1) received a strong effort from goalie Skylar Wilson, who made nine saves to keep the hosts within striking distance.
Husson returns to action Saturday when it heads to Keene State College for a 1:30 p.m. non-conference matchup.
