LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The Husson University women's tennis team picked up two dominant wins on Saturday afternoon over Vermont State University Lyndon, defeating the Hornets 7-0 in both matchups.
Husson 7, VTSU Lyndon 0
Husson (3-1, 2-1 NAC) dropped just one game in its four singles matches to open the day, as seniors Julia Barber and Joey Lynn Ramsdell and freshman Katelyn Cotter secured 6-0, 6-0 wins, while junior Olivia Christensen picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Freshmen Sadie May and Elisabeth Kelly did not have to play in singles action, as Lyndon (0-1, 0-1 NAC) forfeited the final two singles matches.
Barber and Ramsdell teamed up for a 6-1 win in doubles, in addition to the team of Cotter and Christensen, who picked up a 6-0 victory to complete the clean sweep, as May and Kelly won via forfeit in the No. 3 doubles spot.
Husson 7, VTSU Lyndon 0
In the finale of the day it was more of the same for Husson (4-1), as junior Kayla Lockhart earned a win in No. 1 singles after her opponent retired in the second set, while sophomore Mallory Beaulieu won 6-1, 6-0.
May and Kelly moved the singles advantage to 4-0 after they picked wins of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0 respectively, while Cotter and Christensen earned wins via forfeit in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots.
The Eagles continued their dominance in doubles action, as Lockhart and sophomore Anah Albert, in addition to Christensen and Beaulieu picked up 6-0 victories in the opening doubles matches, while Kelly and Cotter won via forfeit in the third doubles match over Lyndon (0-2).
Husson returns to action tomorrow in North Atlantic Conference play at Vermont State University Johnson with action beginning at 10 a.m.
