BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's tennis team opened its season and North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon with a closely-contested 4-3 win over Lesley University at the Bangor High School Tennis Courts.
Lesley (0-4, 0-1 NAC) took control of the singles matches immediately after taking both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches to go up 2-0 early on.
Junior Kayla Lockhart and sophomore Anah Albert brought Husson (1-0, 1-0 NAC) back even with wins in the No. 3 and No. 4 singles matches, as Lockhart won 6-4, 6-1, while Albert picked up a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory.
The two teams split the final two singles matches with freshman Katelyn Cotter allowing the Eagles to come away with a 3-3 decision from the singles matches thanks to a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 6 singles match.
After the Lynx took the opening doubles match, Lockhart and Albert combined for a win in the No. 2 doubles match, winning 6-2, to set up a winner take all match in the third doubles spot.
The Eagles were able to come out on top behind a 6-1 victory from sophomore Mallory Beaulieu and junior Olivia Christensen to close out the team victory.
Husson returns to action tomorrow with another conference matchup against Simmons University, in addition to a non-conference battle with the University of Southern Maine, with both matches taking place in Bangor.
