WENHAM, Mass. – The Husson University women's volleyball team fell in its opening game of the 2025 season to Lasell University on Friday evening by a final score of 3-0 in the Gordon College Invitational.
Husson (0-1) started off the contest with the first two points on a kill by sophomore Mikayla Gray and a service ace from junior Janna Preskorn, but Lasell (1-0) would rattle off the next five points to take control of the set.
The Lasers built their opening-set lead up to as many as seven points twice and the Eagles were only able to get as close as five, before Lasell closed out the first set win by a score of 25-18.
Similarly to the opening set, Husson gathered the first two points of the set, but it was quickly answered by four-consecutive points from Lasell.
The Eagles managed to fight back to knot the set back up at seven, but the Lasers bested Husson 18-4 to close out the set and take a commanding 2-0 set lead.
Lasell immediately looked to close out the match by jumping out to a quick 7-1 lead in set number three and Husson wasn't able to rebound from the slow start, as the Lasers captured the third set and the match with a 25-15 set win.
Gray led the Eagles on offense with six kills and a near .300 hitting percentage, while Preskorn tallied 10 assists.
Sophomore Amanda Mei Morse led Husson with nine digs, while Husson totaled four service aces in the match.
The Eagles will look to bounce back tomorrow when they conclude play at the Gordon Invitational with matchups against Gordon and the United States Merchant Marine Academy at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. respectively.
