LEWISTON, Maine – The Husson University baseball team got back in the win-column on Wednesday evening with a commanding 11-3 victory over Bates College at Leahey Field, as graduate student Jackson Curtis set a new program record for doubles in a career.
Husson (18-10) opened the scoring in its first turn at the plate, as J. Curtis added to his top-mark in program history for RBIs when he drilled a home run over the left field fence with fellow graduate student Akira Warren on base to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles added another two runs to their total in the third inning, as sophomore Matt Holmes hit a sacrifice fly to center field to drive in a run, while J. Curtis scored his second run of the game after breaking the doubles record with a wild pitch later on in the frame.
The next three runs for Husson also came with small-ball, as junior Colin Marshall posted a run in the fourth inning on a passed ball, while bases-loaded walks in the fifth scored Holmes and junior Hunter Curtis.
Husson closed its scoring in the top of the sixth, as J. Curtis knocked his second two-run homer of the game out of the park, while an RBI-double from senior Ryne Rametta and an RBI-single from Marshall closed the book for the Eagles with the score at 11-0.
Bates (11-15) got on the board in the home-half of the sixth with a two-run blast of its own, in addition to an RBI-single which got the game to its final score of 11-3.
J. Curtis led the Eagles with three hits and four RBIs, while Rametta also recorded two hits and senior Tanner Evans, Marshall and junior Keegan Cyr each drew two walks.
Seven different Eagles saw time on the mound in the win, as sophomores Wyatt Stevens and Jack Lano and juniors Allen Wheaton, Cam Rendell and Tanner Audyatis all threw scoreless innings, while freshman Noah Hurd hurled 2.1 scoreless frames, while striking out three.
