KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Husson University softball team opened its 2025 season on Friday as part of a 14-game Spring Break trip winning 7-2 over Johnson & Wales University before dropping the finale 4-0 to Adrian College.
Husson (1-1) trailed 2-0 against Johnson & Wales (3-6) before junior
Lydia Rice singled up the middle scoring senior
Kiara McLeod to pull within 2-1.
The Eagles plated four runs in the third inning, one on a single by graduate student
Julia Gregoire to even the game 2-2 and McLeod recorded her second RBI of the game with a bases-loaded walk to pull ahead 3-2.
Junior
Morgan Curtis was hit by a pitch with bases loaded, scoring the fourth run for Husson and sophomore
Lyndsee Reed plated junior
Lexi Volinsky for the fourth and final run on an RBI ground out.
McLeod registered her second run scored of the game in the fifth inning to increase the Eagles advantage to 6-2 and Rice drove in her second run of the morning with an RBI sac fly to give Husson a 7-2 edge.
Gregoire finished 3-4 in the season opener, while Volinsky added two hits and senior
Tori Exel also tallied two hits.
Junior
Danielle Masterson tossed the first five innings, picking up the victory, striking out nine batters and allowing four hits. Sophomore
Ana Lang pitched the remaining two innings, not allowing a hit and recording three strikeouts.
In Friday's finale, Adrian (6-3) connected on a two-run homerun in the opening frame that proved to be the difference enroute to a 4-0 win.
The Eagles offense was held in check registering its first hit in the final inning from the bat of Exel, followed by Gregoire's fourth hit on the day.
The Bulldogs recorded two more insurance runs in the third and sixth inning to hang on for the win.
Graduate student
Sky Johnson got the start for the Eagles, going the distance, striking out nine batters.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday beginning with Transylvania University at 2 p.m. followed by a showdown with No. 9 Trine University at 4:15 p.m.
