HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Husson University men's lacrosse team closed out its six-game spring trip schedule with a 20-4 victory over the Centenary University Cyclones.
In the first quarter, quick ball movement on the Eagles' (5-3) offensive end led to doorstep scores from both freshman Owen Gray and sophomore Evan Carmody to get things started for Husson. Freshman Kiernan Field would add a goal of his own to close out the first, giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead over the Cyclones (0-3) heading into the second period.
Carmody found the back of the net a second time to start the next period, extending the lead to four. Field continued the offensive onslaught for the Eagles, scoring three more times before the first half ended. Carmody also completed the hat-trick before the half's end, while sophomore Drew Clinch took advantage of a Cyclones penalty, bringing the Eagles to the break with a 9-1 lead.
Junior Aidan Byers got things going offensively for the Eagles to start the second, when he drove down the field, making defenders miss and placed a timely shot past the Cyclones' goaltender. Byers went back-to-back for the Eagles with another score six minutes later. Senior Sean Lyne closed the third period with a goal on the man-up advantage, giving the Eagles a 12-3 advantage heading into the final period.
The Eagles managed to find the back of the net eight more times in the fourth quarter, as Gray scored his second, Field his fifth and sixth, Carmody his fourth and fifth, and freshman Casey Mills scoring his first. Faceoff specialist sophomore Brad Stolt turned a faceoff win into his very first collegiate goal, while freshman Camren Dufour achieved the same with a nice shot from the wing.
Stolt and freshman Brian Peabody did their job at the faceoff line, winning 69% of the draws.
Every Eagles goaltender saw time in net, freshman Jeremy Rousseau, freshman Kyle Plummer, sophomore AJ Torres, junior Odin Burk and junior Cohen Trnka combined for a total of seven saves and helped the Husson defense convert on all but one of its clear attempts.
The Eagles now return to Bangor for two days before traveling again, this time to Massachusetts to take on Anna Maria College on Wednesday.
