Box Score CASTINE, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball team is headed back to the North Atlantic Conference East Division Championship game after it defeated the University of Maine at Farmington 77-64 on Friday night at Maine Maritime Academy.
The first quarter of action between Husson (15-11) and Farmington (11-14) was played much like the last matchup between the two teams that saw the Eagles come away with a come-from-behind victory over the Beavers, as the first quarter went 23-19 in favor of Husson.
Balanced scoring was once again the point of attack offensively for Husson in the opening quarter, as freshman Saige Evans and graduate student Makaelyn Porter were the lone Eagles with multiple buckets, as eight different players found the scorebook in the frame.
The Eagles were able to create a little bit of separation between them and Farmington in the second period, as they were able to build their lead up to 10 points four different times in the period, before freshman Alyssa Harris would give Husson its largest lead of 13 in the final minute of the half when she drilled a three-pointer to allow the Eagles to take a 46-33 lead into the locker room.
Evans led the balanced attack for Husson in the opening half with eight points, as all 11 players who took the floor in the opening 20 minutes recorded points.
The Eagles maintained control of their double-figure lead for the majority of the third period, but Farmington was able to shave a little bit off the deficit before the final quarter, as Husson led 60-52 heading into the final frame.
Senior Jordyn Lengle tallied four points in the third quarter to pace the Husson offense, in addition to grabbing six of her 15 rebounds in the third period of action, which saw the Beavers outscore the Eagles 19-14.
Husson was able to get those five points back in the final 10 minutes of play, as it outscored Farmington 17-12 en route to a fourth-consecutive matchup with Maine Maritime Academy in the East Division title game.
Lengle and senior Lauren Cook posted five points each in the final frame, as the Eagles connected on 10-12 foul shots in the final quarter to seal the victory.
Lengle and Evans each posted 13 points for the game to lead Husson in scoring, as Lengle recorded a double-double with 15 rebounds, while Evans hauled in eight boards.
Cook connected on 3-6 from beyond the arc to finish with 11 points, as the Eagles shot over 42% from the floor as a team and over 46% from three-point land.
The Eagles held a commanding 44-24 edge on the glass, including 18-3 in offensive rebounds, in addition to forcing 17 turnovers, which led to 25 points.
Husson will look to knock off the reigning NAC champions, Maine Maritime, tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. in the NAC East championship game on the campus of the Mariners.
