FARMINGTON, Maine – The Husson University men's basketball team closed out its regular season in a big way on Saturday afternoon, as it routed the University of Maine at Farmington by a score of 85-56 on Saturday afternoon in Farmington.
The two teams went head-to-head early on, but a three-pointer from Simon Chadbourne gave Farmington (12-12, 9-4 NAC) a brief two-score advantage with the score at 13-7.
Husson (18-7, 12-1 NAC) answered the opening spurt from the Beavers in a huge way, as it went on a 24-1 scoring run over nearly a nine-minute stretch to open up a commanding 17-point lead on Farmington.
The remaining five minutes of the opening half were dead-even, as the Eagles took a 40-23 lead into the locker room.
Senior Riles Neff and graduate student Jeremy Moronta led the way for Husson in the opening half, as they tallied 14 and 11 respectively, while Moronta grabbed six rebounds and Neff hauled in four rebounds and dished out four assists.
Husson shot 40.5% in the opening frame, while limiting the Beavers to just 29.6%, while also forcing 12 turnovers from Farmington, which turned into 14 Husson points.
The second half was more of the same for the Eagles, as with the lead at 17 points and just over 14 minutes remaining in the game, Husson completely put the contest away with a 31-9 outburst to get the lead to 39 points.
The Eagles were on cruise-control for the remainder of the contest, en route to their sixth-consecutive win and their 16th win in their past 18 contests.
Moronta led all scorers with 22 points on 10-17 shooting, in addition to nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Neff put together his fourth-straight 20-point performance, as he contributed a near triple-double with 20 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
As a unit, Husson shot 50.8% from the floor, including 64.3% in the second half, while limiting Farmington to just 29.2%, in addition to forcing 17 turnovers.
The Eagles will now prepare for the North Atlantic Conference tournament, which begins this coming Friday with the location, seeding and game times to be announced by the conference this coming week.
