WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The Husson University men's swimming and diving team turned in a strong day of racing at Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday, highlighted by multiple event wins and top-three performances across all disciplines, but the Warriors came away with a 160.5-98.5 win in the meet.
Senior Alex Walsh paced the Eagles with a victory in the 200 freestyle (1:54.76) and a runner-up finish in the 400 individual medley (4:53.59), while also helping anchor the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay, both of which placed second overall.
The Eagles opened the meet with a tight finish in the 200 medley relay, as senior Ryan Emerson, sophomore Jake Perkins, senior Sam Peiser, and senior Brayden Champlin combined for a time of 1:42.54, just four-tenths behind the Warriors. Emerson followed that with a win in the 100 backstroke (56.56), while Perkins claimed runner-up finishes in both the 100 breaststroke (1:07.89) and 200 breaststroke (2:34.56).
Freshman Kobe Swett added a victory in the 500 freestyle (5:32.69) and a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:55.34). Senior Brady Hand finished second in the 100 butterfly (56.18), and Peiser added first-place honors in the 50 freestyle (23.15) and third in the 100 freestyle (52.54) to cap a well-rounded meet for Husson's upperclassmen.
The men closed out the meet with a second-place showing in the 200 freestyle relay (1:31.64) behind Hand, Emerson, Peiser, and Champlin, finishing the day with 98.5 team points.
Husson returns to action on Saturday for a tri-meet against Maine Maritime Academy and Keene State College at Webber Pool, starting at 6 p.m.
