DUDLEY, Mass. — The Husson University football team exploded for 63 points and 468 yards of total offense Saturday afternoon at Vendetti Field, rolling past Nichols College, 63–19, in a Conference of New England matchup that saw the Eagles find the end zone in every phase of the game.
The tone was set early when the Husson (3-6, 2-4 CNE) defense forced a Nichols (2-7, 2-4) fumble on the opening drive, recovered by the Eagles at their own 33-yard line. Senior running back Jed Lober capitalized on the takeaway, carrying the ball nine times during the ensuing 67-yard march and plunging in from one yard out to give Husson a 7–0 lead with 8:40 left in the first quarter.
After the Eagles' defense forced a quick three-and-out, senior quarterback Max Clark wasted no time stretching the lead. On just the third play of the drive, Clark found graduate student Cam Holmes streaking down the sideline for a 29-yard touchdown strike to make it 14–0 with 5:41 remaining in the period.
Nichols answered back late in the quarter when quarterback Ian Snow connected with Jack Morvan for a 34-yard score to trim the deficit to 14–7 heading into the second.
The second quarter belonged again to Husson's ground game and Clark's arm. The Eagles orchestrated a methodical 13-play, 70-yard drive that chewed up more than six minutes of clock. Lober capped it with his second touchdown of the afternoon—a powerful 10-yard rush up the middle—to make it 21–7 with 6:19 left in the half.
After a defensive stand by Husson's front seven, Clark delivered another highlight-reel moment. Facing 2nd-and-long, the senior quarterback found sophomore tight end Dominic Trott wide open for a 53-yard touchdown bomb, pushing the lead to 28–7 before halftime.
The second half opened with fireworks. Sophomore wide receiver Mari Montgomery fielded the opening kickoff at his own 15-yard line, darted up the middle, and outran the Nichols coverage team 85 yards to the end zone, giving Husson a commanding 35–7 lead just 17 seconds into the third quarter.
Nichols managed to respond midway through the quarter when Snow again connected with Morvan, this time on a 30-yard scoring pass. But Clark and Montgomery quickly answered. On the next possession, the duo hooked up on a 34-yard touchdown pass to push the advantage to 42–13 with 5:19 left. Nichols added a short rushing score late in the frame, but Husson's offense remained in complete control.
Clark's precision continued early in the fourth, finding senior tight end Caleb Solomon for a 27-yard touchdown to make it 49–19.
From there, Husson's running backs took over. Lober powered in for his third touchdown of the day from seven yards out midway through the quarter, and freshman running back Seth Cortina added the exclamation point with a 25-yard scoring run in the final minute to seal the 63–19 victory.
Lober led all rushers with 199 yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries, while Clark delivered a near-perfect outing—completing 10 of 16 passes for 181 yards and four touchdowns. Montgomery totaled two scores—one receiving and one on the kick return—while Trott, Holmes, and Solomon each caught touchdown passes. The Eagles' offense racked up 287 yards on the ground and averaged 7.4 yards per play.
Freshman Max Kyhill paced the Husson defense with nine tackles, while seniors Evan Bourget and Ryan Banister each forced fumbles. Junior Jahmye Tyson was disruptive up front with 1.5 sacks and sophomore Colby Nadeau recovered a fumble to set up a scoring drive.
Senior kicker Garrett Martin went a perfect 9-for-9 on extra points, and Husson's coverage units held Nichols to just 83 kick return yards. The Eagles dominated time of possession (31:03) and converted nine of 13 third-down attempts.
The Eagles close their season next week back home at the Winkin Complex when they host Maine Maritime Academy for senior day on Saturday with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
