| By:

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Husson University men's swimming & diving team turned in a strong team performance on Saturday at Clark University, as it defeated Clark 163-105.

Husson opened the meet with a statement victory in the 200 medley relay, where the group of seniors Ryan Emerson, Brady Hand, Lucas Fendl, and Brayden Champlin stopped the clock in 1:43.94 to take first by nearly five seconds.

The Eagles continued that momentum in the early events as senior Alex Walsh dominated the 1000 freestyle, winning in 11:18.89 with consistent pacing from start to finish. First-year Bryce Upton followed with a strong third-place finish in 12:07.65.

Walsh went on to collect another victory later in the meet, taking the 50 backstroke in 26.13 and then winning the 200 backstroke in 2:05.40, giving the senior a perfect 3-for-3 day in individual events.

Champlin added two sprint victories of his own, winning the 50 freestyle in 23.47 before returning in the 100 freestyle to take first in 51.90. Hand also picked up an individual win, leading wire-to-wire in the 200 freestyle with a 1:55.36.

In the 200 IM, first-year Kobe Swett delivered one of the Eagles' strongest all-around swims of the day, pulling away late to claim the event in 2:12.52. Husson also picked up valuable points in the breaststroke, where Emerson finished second in the 200 breast (2:31.54) and Upton followed in third at 2:43.19.

Husson closed the meet by sweeping the top spot in both men's relays. Freshman Andrew Prince, Emerson, sophomore Bennett Walker, and Walsh combined to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:32.98, while the B-relay of freshman Mac Morris, Hand, Fendl, and senior Jacob Brown secured third at 3:41.90.

The Eagles excelled on the boards as well, with Swett winning the 1-meter event with a score of 226.35.

Husson returns to action on Dec. 5 and 6 when it takes part in the Maine State Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by Colby College.
