WATERVILLE, Maine – The Husson University women's tennis team closed out its regular season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Thomas College 4–3 at the North Street Tennis Courts in North Atlantic Conference play.
At No. 1 singles, senior Julia Barber battled through a close second set to earn a 6–3, 7–6 (7–5) win over Taylor Juhase. Freshman Katelyn Cotter continued her consistent play at No. 5, defeating Lillian Mickel 6–2, 6–3, while freshman Sadie May closed out a tight 6–4, 7–5 win at No. 6 over Tracy Lopez.
The Terriers (8-4, 4-2 NAC) also took three singles matches to send things tied at three into doubles play.
Husson's (8-2, 5-1) experience shined in doubles play. The No. 1 pairing of Barber and senior Joey Lynn Ramsdell secured a 7–5 victory over Juhase and Daigle to put the Eagles ahead. Moments later, Cotter and May outlasted Bailey and Mickel 7–6 (7–5) at No. 3 doubles to lock in the team win.
Thomas' tandem of Gilman and Bhagat claimed a 6–2 win at No. 2 doubles, but it wasn't enough to stop Husson from taking the win.
Husson will now await its first-round opponent in the upcoming NAC tournament, which is scheduled to begin on Oct. 11 at Apex Racket and Fitness in Portland.
