BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's tennis team battled to the final point on Friday afternoon but fell just short in a 4–3 non-conference decision to the University of New England at the Bangor High School Tennis Courts.
Husson picked up two wins in singles, as in No. 4 singles, sophomore Anah Albert continued her steady play with a dominant 6–1, 6–3 win over Alyssa Fritschka. Sophomore Mallory Beaulieu followed with a straight-sets victory at No. 5, pulling out a 7–6, 6–2 win over Sydney Pelletier after taking the first-set tiebreak.
With the singles session complete, UNE (8-1) had already secured the match win by taking four of the six singles matches.
At No. 2 doubles, junior Kayla Lockhart and Albert cruised to a 6–2 win over Lamontagne and Fritschka, while freshmen Katelyn Cotter and Sadie may captured a 6-3 win in the No. 3 doubles spot to earn the point for the Eagles.
Husson returns to North Atlantic Conference play tomorrow when it heads to Thomas College for a 1 p.m. matchup.
