Women’s basketball adds Austin to 2025 recruiting class

BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball team announced the commitment of Ellie Austin to its 2025 recruiting class, making her the third recruit for the Eagles this class.

Austin is a 5-11 senior from Penobscot Valley High School in Howland, Maine and has been a four-year starter and a three-year captain for the Howlers under head coach Nate Case.

Austin and Penobscot Valley are currently ranked No. 1 in the Northern Maine Class C standings with Austin averaging 12.2 points per game, in addition to 8.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists.

"Ellie has been a pleasure to coach for four seasons," Case said. "She is a great teammate, she plays the game the right way, and loves being in the gym to improve her craft. Husson is getting a secret star."

Austin was named offensive player of the year two times during her high school career and was selected to the Northern Maine Class C All-Tournament team, while also earning MVP honors of her team.

Outside of playing for Penobscot Valley, Austin also played AAU for coach Matt McInnis and the Maine Sting, in addition to the Maine Lumberjacks and coach Brad Paradis.

"Ellie has great size for a guard," said head women's basketball coach Kissy Walker. "She can do a little bit of everything on the floor and she comes from a winning program with an excellent coach. Ellie will be a nice addition to our roster."

Aside from basketball, Austin also played left wing for the Penobscot Valley soccer team, which won the Maine Class C State Championship this past season.

Austin has received the Responsibility Award, as well as the highest average in English, while also volunteering at the Howlers Hoop Camp and being a member of Penobscot Valley's student council.

While at Husson, Austin plans to study elementary education.
