BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University men's basketball team's win-streak has reached double-digits thanks to an 81-53 win over SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday afternoon at Newman Gymnasium in North Atlantic Conference play.
Husson (12-5, 7-0 NAC) answered an early bucket from Cobleskill (4-10, 1-5 NAC) with a 17-7 run to take a 17-9 lead early on, which eventually led to a 32-13 advantage with just over seven minutes remaining in the first half.
The Eagles built their lead to as much as 21 in the opening 20 minutes and went into the locker room with a 46-32 lead following a brief run from the Fighting Tigers to close the half.
Husson extended its lead right back to 20 points to open the second half by outscoring Cobleskill 8-2 and never led by less than 17 for the remainder of the half, which allowed it to roll to its 10th-consecutive win.
Junior Gil Matondo led the way offensively for the Eagles with 18 points on 7-14 shooting, while also grabbing six rebounds.
Graduate student Jeremy Moronta stuffed the stat-sheet with a 10-point, 14-rebound double-double, in addition to seven assists and two steals, while sophomore Tope Alao contributed 10 points, six rebounds and six assists.
As a team, Husson shot 45% from the floor, while holding Cobleskill to just 28% as a team, including just 19% from the floor in the second half.
The Eagles held a 50-41 rebounding advantage and dished out 21 assists on their 33 made field goals.
Husson will be back in action at Newman Gymnasium on Sunday when they host SUNY Delhi at 3 p.m.
