BANGOR, Maine – Husson University has announced the hiring of Carlos Bermudez '23 as the new head coach of its men's soccer program.

"We are very excited to welcome Carlos back to the Husson community as our head men's soccer coach," stated Director of Athletics John Sutyak. "It is evident that Carlos not only has a good understanding of our university, our department and our men's soccer program, but also has a clear vision on how we will develop our student-athletes in the pursuit of academic and athletic excellence. I am looking forward to working with Carlos on this journey, as we look to develop high character people, while competing for North Atlantic Conference championships and NCAA appearances."

Prior to becoming the head coach of a men's soccer program that has made an appearance in the last two NAC championship games, including a victory in 2022, Bermudez was the soccer academy administrator at Penn Fusion in West Chester, Pennsylvania. In addition to his administrative duties, Bermudez also served as the head coach of the academy's U9 boys, U12 girls and U11 girls teams since June of 2023.

Bermudez also has been the head coach of the U17 and U15 boys teams at Seacoast United SC in Orono, where he guided the U17 team to a Coastal Summer Challenge Championship in his four-plus years with the club from 2020-24.

In the midst of his time with Seacoast United, Bermudez served as an assistant coach for the men's soccer program at Husson for three seasons (2020-22) under former head coach Gavin Penny. Bermudez was a part of the Husson team that captured a NAC championship in 2022 and appeared in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

In addition to his duties as an assistant coach with the Eagles, Bermudez also directed the summer soccer camp on campus which educated 145 campers, as well as coordinating the recruiting efforts for the men's soccer team and handling the scouting reports for Husson's opponents.

"I am very happy to be back at Husson University," Bermudez expressed. "I want to thank the president, Dr. Lynne Coy-Ogan, athletic director, John Sutyak, and assistant athletic director Janine Gmitter, as well as the hiring committee for their trust in me. I also want to take the chance to thank my family and everyone else that always supports me. I am very excited to take over what coach Penny has accomplished for this program. He has been a mentor and a friend and I will be sure to make him proud of this program. We have a very talented squad that is ready to work hard and face some exciting challenges. The Eagles are ready to fly!"

Prior to the start of his coaching career in the United States, Bermudez was a member of the men's soccer program as a player for one year in 2019, making 18 starts in the team's 20 games that year, in addition to helping the Eagles to a NAC semifinal appearance as a defensive midfielder.

Before his lone season of playing at Husson, Bermudez coached for the four years prior, serving as the head coach of the U12 boys team for C.F. Pozuelo de Alarcón, in addition to being an assistant coach for the U14 and U13 boys teams for the club in his home country of Spain.

Bermudez is a native of Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid, Spain and graduated from Husson following the fall semester in 2023 with a bachelor of science in sport management and a master of business administration.
