BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University softball stuck to its winning ways on Saturday sweeping the University of New England by finals of 3-0 and 2-0 to win its 25th-straight game.
Husson (30-4) benefited from strong pitching on Saturday as sophomore
Danielle Masterson got the start in game one, tossing seven-complete innings of four hit softball with one walk and seven strikeouts for her 10th win on the year.
Senior
Jess Pomerleau provided the Eagles win the winning run in the third inning, doubling down the left field line scoring senior
Katie Raymond.
Junior
Tori Exel added an insurance run on a single down the left field line that plated Pomerleau to extend the lead to 2-0.
Husson added another run in the sixth on an RBI fielder's choice from Raymond for a 3-0 lead.
UNE (12-28) put a runner on in the top of the seventh, but Masterson struck out one and forced two groundouts to end the game.
Pomerleau finished with a team-high two hits, while junior
Kiara McLeod added two hits. Raymond finished with three stolen bases and two walks.
In the Eagles second game of Saturday's doubleheader, freshman
Ana Lang went the distance in the circle picking up her 15th win of the season. Lang scattered five hits over seven innings and struck out 12 batters, including striking out the side in the seventh to end the game.
Exel supplied the damage offensively for Husson in the second game, connecting on a two-RBI triple in the first inning to give the Eagles a 2-0 edge.
Win both wins on Saturday, Husson broke an over 60-year record for the most consecutive wins by a women's sport in institution history.
Husson closes out its regular season on Sunday with a trip to Presque Isle with first pitch schedule for noon.
