BANGOR, Maine – The No. 20 Husson University softball team rode the hot bat of senior Kenzie Dore for a second-straight day and advanced to North Atlantic Conference championship series with a 12-1 win over SUNY Poly on Friday afternoon at O'Keefe Field and extended its winning-streak to 29 games.
Husson (34-4) did as it did in yesterday's victory, striking for four first-inning runs against Poly (25-9). An RBI-single from junior Bulla McCabe plated senior Jess Pomerleau to give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead. Dore followed that up two batters later with her seventh homer of the season which furthered the Husson lead to 4-0.
After a run from the Wildcats in the visitor-half of the third, Dore blasted her second home run of the game over the left-center field wall to tie Cassie Berry for the most career-home runs in the history of Husson softball, in addition to giving the Eagles a four-run advantage.
Husson put the game away in the home-half of the fourth, posting seven runs on five hits to ensure a run-rule victory for a second-straight day. The Eagles saw runs from sophomore Lydia Rice and Pomerleau, in addition to RBI-hits from senior Julia Gregoire, freshman Josie Cornell and junior Kiara McLeod to push the lead to 12-1.
Freshman Ana Lang went the distance for Husson in the win, hurling five innings of four-hit, two-walk softball, while adding eight strikeouts and just the one earned run.
Dore, McCabe and Gregoire each posted two-hit games to lead the Eagles at the plate, while Dore and Gregoire combined for six RBIs on the afternoon.
With the win, the softball team has set a new program-record for wins in a season with its 34 victories.
Husson will compete in the NAC championship tomorrow afternoon at O'Keefe Field at 1 p.m.
