Men's lacrosse closes out 2024 season in style at home

BANGOR, Maine -- The Husson University men's lacrosse team closed out its 2024 season with a 17-10 win, at John P. Boucher Field, against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Saturday afternoon.

After MCLA scored the game's opening goal, Husson (6-10, 3-5 NAC) senior Matt Boynton responded with back-to-back goals to claim the lead for the Eagles, before MCLA countered with two more goals of their own, allowing them to possess a 3-2 lead, with 5:48 left in the first period.

From there, the Eagles went on to score six-consecutive goals to gain the permanent lead over the Trailblazers. Sophomore Kolton Gillilan started the six-goal run for Husson on a man-down score, followed by two goals each from juniors Sean Lyne and Nathan Vibber and a score from sophomore Aidan Byers

Once the Eagles and Trailblazers traded goals, Husson held a 9-4 lead heading into the second half of play.

Husson continued to out-pace MCLA in the second half, with Boynton and Byers continuing to lead the way with each finding the back of the net twice more. Freshman Drew Clinch scored his second goal of the game, on a nice find from Boynton, with 37 seconds remaining in the third.

In the fourth, freshman Evan Carmody scored his second goal of the season on a free ball right in front of the Trailblazer's net, followed by another Gillilan goal on an assist from Clinch, which finished the scoring for the Eagles and secured a 17-10 win in the season finale.

Boynton led the way for the Eagles in the season finale, finishing the game with four goals and two assists. Lyne followed with three goals and four assists, while Byers finished with three goals on three shots. Sophomore Odin Burk earned the win for the Eagles, tallying seven saves while in net.

Husson finished the 2024 season with a 6-10 overall record and a 3-5 conference record.
