BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University women's basketball team lost its conference opener on Wednesday evening, as the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners beat the Eagles 68-44 at Newman Gymnasium.
MMA(4-2) was in control from the tip-off as it outscored Husson 18-9 in the first quarter after getting out to an 8-0 lead to start the game.
A middle of the second quarter surge from the Eagles got them within six points with 5 minutes left in the first half. This would be the closest the Eagles would get within the Mariners for the duration of the game as MMA took a 37-22 lead into halftime.
In the second half MMA extended its lead by another five points off the back of five free throws from Addison Forry and three made three-pointers, including one from Senior Erianna Moore who finished the game with a 19 points leading the Mariners in scoring.
Senior Hannah Richards and freshman Lilly Roy led the Eagles in scoring with 9 apiece.
The Eagles struggled offensively as they shot just 25% from the floor and 16% from three going 4-24 in the contest.
Husson will be back in action on Saturday as it travels to Thomas College for a conference match-up scheduled to tip-off at 1 p.m.
