ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Husson University women's basketball returned to action for the first time since Christmas on Sunday afternoon and fell to Emory University by a score of 90-43 in the St. Petersburg Classic in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Husson (3-8) managed to play right with Emory (6-2) in the opening quarter, trailing just 17-16 after the opening 10 minutes.
The second period is where Emory really started to make its push, as it outscored the Eagles 20-10 in the second quarter to take a 37-26 lead into the locker room.
Emory kept its momentum going in the second half, as it built its lead to as much as 25 in the third quarter and outscored Husson 24-10 in the quarter, before really turning it on in the final period by holding Husson to just seven points in the period, while posting 29 of its own.
Freshman Saige Evans led the way for Husson offensively with eight points, while fellow freshmen Lilly Roy and Alyssa Harris added seven and six points respectively.
Husson shot just 23.5% from the floor offensively as a team, while Emory was efficient with its offense, posting a 52.2% shooting clip for the game, including a 43.5% rate from beyond the arc.
The Eagles will look to rebound tomorrow in their final game of the St. Petersburg Classic when they battle No. 20/No. 25 Messiah University at 3 p.m.
