BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University men's basketball team tipped off its 2024-25 season at home on Friday evening falling to Lasell University 60-56.
Husson (0-1) and Lasell (1-0) battled each other throughout the night, trading points through the first eight minutes before the Eagles opened up a nine-point advantage with 10:15 remaining in the opening half.
The Lasers pulled within one point of Husson at the 7:04 mark and again with :14 second remaining, but two end-of-the-half three throws from
Riles Neff gave the Eagles a slight 32-29 advantage heading into the half.
Lasell managed to tie the game at the 13:01 mark in the second half, but Husson would regain the lead until the Lasers pulled even again with 9:46 remaining. Lasell took its first lead since the opening minutes of the first half at the 7:13 mark, but Husson would regain the advantage and hold the lead until 2:36 remaining.
However, Lasell fended off the Eagles over the final two-plus minutes to come away with the hard-fought 60-56 decision.
Sophomore
Andre McCauley finished with a game-high 17 points for the Eagles, while Neff added eight points and junior
Ty Henke recorded six. Junior
Eric Ahlers pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, followed by graduate student
Scott Lewis who finished with seven.
Neff dished out four assists and posted two steals, while McCauley recorded three assists and three steals.
Husson will compete in the UMass Dartmouth Tour on Saturday against host UMass Dartmouth at 7:30 p.m.
