STANDISH, Maine – The Husson University men's basketball team lost in the seventh annual Alumni Cup game to Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday afternoon by a score of 109-76 at the Harold Alfond Center in Standish.
Husson (2-3) and Saint Joseph's (3-2) battled for the first five-plus minutes, leaving the game knotted up at 10 after a layup from Remijo Wani brought the game to its third tie after four early lead changes.
The Monks turned it on from there, ending the first half by outscoring the Eagles 46-27 over the final 14-plus minutes to take a big lead into the half.
Saint Joseph's continued its scoring ambush in the second half, posting 18 made three-pointers in the win, in addition to forcing Husson into 20 turnovers.
Senior Riles Neff led a trio of Eagles who scored in double-digits, as he tallied 13 points, four rebounds and four assists on 5-11 shooting.
Graduate student Jeremy Moronta posted 12 points, while ripping down seven rebounds and knocking down 6-10 foul shots.
Freshman Dylan Burpee took advantage of his 17 minutes, racking up 11 points on an efficient 4-6 shooting.
The Eagles shot over 44% from the floor as a team, but struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 21%, in addition to just 63% from the charity stripe.
Husson will look to rebound on Tuesday when it heads to Clark University for a 6 p.m. road contest.
