BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's tennis team picked up two more wins on Saturday afternoon, as it swept a doubleheader against Thomas College, winning the first match 9-0 in North Atlantic Conference action, in addition to picking up a 6-3 win in non-conference play.
MATCH 1:
Husson (6-2, 4-1 NAC) started out match one by sweeping the doubles matches, as junior Julia Barber and freshman Anah Albert won at No. 1 doubles 8-3, while senior Olivia Chandler and Kayla Lockhart earned a 7-5 tiebreak win at No. 2 doubles to pick up the 8-7 win.
Graduate student Emily Doten and junior Joey Lynn Ramsdell racked up the win in No. 3 doubles with an 8-3 victory.
The Eagles also swept all of the singles matches, as Barber got things started in the No. 1 spot with a 6-3, 6-0 win.
Doten picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2, while Ramsdell earned a three-set win at No. 3 with set scores of 6-3, 4-6 and 10-7.
Lockhart won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4, in addition to Chandler winning 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 and Albert picking up a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles to complete the clean-sweep for Husson.
MATCH 2:
The finale of the doubleheader started much like the opener did, as the Eagles captured wins in the first two doubles matches, as Barber and Albert won 8-3 and Doten and Ramsdell picked up an 8-6 victory out of the No. 2 spot.
Thomas (4-7, 2-4 NAC) got on the board in the final doubles match, as freshman Mallory Beaulieu and sophomore Olivia Christensen fell 4-8.
Barber, Doten and Albert remained perfect on the day, as they each earned wins in singles matches, with Barber winning 6-2, 6-2 out of the No. 1 spot, Doten picking up a 6-2, 6-1 win out of the No. 2 spot and Albert winning 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 out of the No. 4 slot to clinch the match win for Husson.
Beaulieu gutted out a win in the No. 5 singles spot, as she rallied from dropping the first set 6-4 to earn a 7-5 tiebreak win in set two to take the set 7-6, in addition to taking the final set tiebreak 10-3.
Chandler and Christensen fell in the No. 3 and No. 6 singles matches, as Chandler lost 3-6, 4-6 and Christensen dropped a three-set match, 6-2, 2-6, 5-9.
The Eagles will now enter the NAC tournament as the No. 2 seed and will take on SUNY Delhi on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Apex Racket & Fitness Center in Portland in the semifinal round.
