GORHAM, Maine – The Husson University women's tennis team completed a perfect weekend after a 6-3 victory over the University of Southern Maine on Sunday afternoon at Gorham High School.
After falling in the first doubles match, the Eagles (3-0) tied the score at one after a tie breaking victory by juniors Olivia Chandler and Hannah Duley in the second doubles match, 8-7 (7-5). The Eagles took the lead after doubles as senior Emily Doten and sophomore Joey Lynn Ramsdell made easy work in the third doubles match, 8-2.
The Huskies (0-2) were able to tie the game at three after winning the first two singles matches, but the Eagles rattled off the final four singles matches en route to the road victory. In the third singles match, Ramsdell won in straight sets, but it wasn't easy as she needed to win a tiebreaker in each set to win the point, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-8). In the fourth singles set, Duley won her match, 6-0, 6-4. Chandler sailed away in the fifth singles match, 6-1, 6-0. Finally, in the sixth singles match, freshman Kayla Lockhart played only one set as she was victorious, 8-1.
The conference schedule takes over for the rest of the season for the women's tennis team as they host a back-to-back next weekend at Old Town High School. Eastern Nazarene makes the trip on Saturday while Lesley University visits the next day.
