BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University men's lacrosse team returned to winning ways on Saturday afternoon thanks to a 15-14 comeback victory over Thomas College in North Atlantic Conference action.
It was a rough first half for the Eagles (6-5, 2-2 NAC) as they trailed Thomas (2-4, 1-2 NAC), 9-5, heading into halftime. Freshman Bryce DeRonda, seniors Ben Huynh and Matt Boynton as well as graduate student Gunner McAllister and sophomore Sean Lyne each scored once in the first half.
Facing their largest deficit of the day to start the second half; McAllister and Boynton shined. Husson scored eight of the 11 goals scored in the third period including six from the attacking duo as they Eagles took a 13-12 lead into the final 15 minutes.
Boynton and Lyne (from Boynton) stretched the lead to 15-12 before the Terriers attempted one final push. Thomas was able to score twice with a man up and make it a one goal game with eight minutes left. The Eagles defense led by freshman goalkeeper Odin Burk was able to hold the Terriers to just three shots in the closing stages en route to the victory.
Burk made ten saves while senior Jacob Larochelle went 21-of-31 on face-offs with 11 ground balls picked up. McAllister tallied nice goals and three assists while Boynton called four goals and three assists.
The men's lacrosse team heads back on the road for their next three contests as they return to New York this weekend with a trip to Cazenovia (on Friday) and SUNY Poly (on Sunday) in their sights. The opening face-off for Friday contest is at 4:00 p.m.
