Box Score DANVILLE, Va. – The Husson University men's lacrosse team visited Averett University on Wednesday evening as they dropped a 11-8 contest to the Cougars.
It was an even first quarter of action at Daly Field as both exchanged goals for the first quarter. The Cougars (2-2) would score the final goal of the quarter and take a 4-3 lead into the second quarter. Sophomore Nathan Vibber opened the scoring for Husson (2-2) followed by two goals from senior Gunner McAllister.
The second quarter was all Averett as they outscored the Eagles, 5-1, with the lone goal from senior Ben Huynh.
The Eagles faced a 9-4 deficit to start the second half and McAllister took it in his own hands by scoring four goals including two on the man advantage. Senior Matthew Boynton and junior Danny Carter each with a helper in the period as the Eagles cut Averett's lead down to 10-8 with 15 minutes remaining in regulation.
The fourth quarter saw the Eagles fire ten shots with four on goal but it was the Coguars that scored the lone goal of the quarter as they come away with the non-conference victory, 11-8.
Freshman Odin Burk started the contest in goal as he made six saves before freshman Cohen Trnka took over for the second half and saved two shots. Senior Jacob Larochelle won 14 of 23 face-offs while McAllister finished the contest with six goals.
The men's lacrosse spring break games continue on Friday with a stop in North Carolina as the Eagles will take on Brevard College with the first face-off set for 1:00 p.m.
