KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Husson University softball dropped a pair of games on Monday morning at The Spring Games as the Eagles fell to the College of Saint Benedict, 10-2, before falling to the No. 21 University of Rochester, 3-2. With the results, the Eagles fall to 2-4 on the very young season.
Game 1: College of Saint Benedict 10, Husson 2 - Five Innings
The Bennies put together three runs in the first two innings before the Eagles were able to get on the board in the third. With two outs, senior
Katie Raymond was hit by a pitched and she was able to score two batters later when sophomore Tori Excel singled.
College of Saint Benedict responded to the Eagles run with five unanswered runs. In the top of the fifth, senior
Teagan Blackie delievered a base hit to the right field, and scored later in the inning when sophomore
Kiara McLeod grounded out to the shortstop.
The Bennies led 8-2 into the bottom of the fifth inning when they was able to score two runs and walk away with the 10-2 victory.
Freshman
Danielle Masterson started the contest in the circle going over two innings followed by appearences by sophomore
Tatyanna Biamby and freshman
Emily Rerick.
Game 2: No. 21 University of Rochester 3, Husson 2
The Eagles took the lead in the second inning as
Morgan Curtis was hit by a pitch. Smart baserunning allowed the freshman to score two batters later when Raymond grounded out to the second baseman.
In the fourth inning, the Yellowjackets were able to tie the game on a single before the Eagles regained the lead in the fifth. Freshman
Angelina Fucci led off the inning with a ground-rule double and later scored on a fielding error.
The University of Rochester would take the lead for good in the sixth on a two-run homer as the 21st ranked team in the country escaped with the 3-2 victory.
Senior
McKenna Smith pitched the whole contest as she allowed three runs on six hits, and struck out seven.
The softball team will return to Fortune Road Athletic Complex tomorrow when they will face-off versus two regional opponents. First up, the Eagles will take on the United States Coast Guard Academy at 2:00 p.m. before facing off with Gordon College at 4:30 p.m.
