WATERVILLE, Maine – The Husson University women's lacrosse team recorded its first road victory of the season on Wednesday evening as the Eagles took down the Terriers of Thomas College by the final score of 11-5 at Smith Field in non-conference action.

It didn't take long for the Eagles (3-2) to get on the board as senior Sophia Gomez and freshman Averi Baker gave the Eagles a quick 2-0 lead over the Terriers (0-3) in the first four minutes of the contest. The two quick goals were all that was scored in the opening 15 minutes.

In the second quarter, the Eagles stretched their lead to 6-0 before the Terriers were able to score before halftime. Sophomore Natalie Whitten recorded a goal and an assist, while Baker completed her hat trick with two goals and sophomore Maddy Benoit added a score.

Whitten was able to complete her hat trick in the third with two goals as the Eagles blew the game open with four goals in the quarter. A brilliant caused turnover allowed Gomez one-on-one with the Terriers goalie before netting her second goal of the game, followed by senior Devyn Veits scoring her lone goal of the contest.

In the fourth quarter, the Terriers attempted a comeback by scoring the first three goals and making pulling within 10-5 of Husson. But, Gomez, ended the run with her third goal of the game scoring on a women-up opportunity to help secure the Eagles 11-5 decision.

Sophomore Emily Godfrey started the contest in goal for the Eagles before being replaced at halftime by fellow sophomore Emma Begin. The duo combined to make four saves on the night. Veits, along with her goal, picked up seven ground balls and caused four turnovers while the Eagles won 13 draw controls.

Husson returns to action on Saturday when it host Maine Maritime Academy in non-conference action beginning at 1 p.m.
