CASTINE, Maine – Graduate student Vanessa Duarte scored her 1,000th career point and senior Bailey Donovan recorded her 1,000th career rebound as the Husson women's basketball had their season come to an end following a 52-49 loss to the Mariners of Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday afternoon.
The Mariners (21-6) jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Eagles (20-7) could get on the scoreboard. Junior Makaelyn Porter got the Eagles on the board via four straight points to even the score at four. Maine Maritime responded by scoring the next five points as they lead, 11-8, after ten minutes.Â
The Eagles took their lead of the contest early in the second quarter thanks to a 6-2 run powered by a three pointer from junior Lauren Cook. The Eagles would hold a slight lead for the majority of the contest but the Mariners stole the halftime lead thanks to a 7-0 run to end the half and lead 25-23 at halftime.Â
The second half of the contest was closely contested between both sides as the Mariners would take a lead before the Eagles were able to tie the contest back up as there was ten lead changes and nine ties but it was the Mariners who were able to pull off the victory.
Senior Bailey Donovan paced the Eagles with 14 points and 22 rebounds while Duarte scored eight points.
