BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University women's basketball team announced its third recruit to its 2024 recruiting class. Spruce Mountain guard Aubrey Kachnovick has committed to play for the Eagles in 2024.
Kachnovick and her team captured the Class B South Regional Championship last year and went onto the state championship, before falling by one point in the final.
Kachovick has been a three-year starter and captain for two seasons. She averaged 13.1 points 8.8 rebounds and 4 assists per game last season.
"Aubrey is one of the best people I have had the privilege to coach," said Spruce Mountain head coach Zack Keene. "She is a fierce competitor, great leader and teammate and a role model within her school and community. Her passion and work ethic are second to none. I am proud to have built our program at Spruce around Aubrey, she will be a great addition for Husson."
Aubrey has received the teammate of the year award and the most improved player for Spruce Mountain. She was selected to the Mountain Valley All-Conference (MVC) defensive award, second team all-conference and named to the all-regional all-star team. Aubrey was also Sun Journal Athlete of the Week.
"Aubrey plays hard, defensively anticipates well and is fundamentally sound," said head women's basketball coach Kissy Walker. "She is a steady eddy, a complete player who will fit well into our system."
Aubrey is a three-sport athlete also competing in field hockey and tennis.
She is very active in her school and community. She has received a number of academic awards such as the, US history award, math award, two health awards, student of the month, award of excellence, Dar Good Citizen award and has been on the high honors all four years.
Aubrey participates on the student council and has held various positions, treasurer, vice president, National Honors Society - secretary. She belongs to the Olympia Snowe Leadership Program, Sources of Strength, peer mentor, youth policy board, church youth group and a volunteer at the St. Rose Community Center.
Aubrey plans to study physical therapy at Husson.
