DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Husson University women's basketball team dropped the opening game 71-52 to Salve Regina University at the Florida Sunshine Shootout on Thursday.
Salve Regina (5-7) led 15-13 following a tightly-contest first quarter before rolling off a 21-6 second quarter run to carry a 36-19 advantage over Husson (4-5) heading into the break.
The Eagles battled back in the third quarter playing Salve Regina to within 18-16 in the quarter before tying 17-17 in the fourth, but the damage was done in the second quarter as Salve Regina held on for the 71-52 decision.
Junior
Hannah Richards finished with a game-high 16 points, adding six rebounds and three assists. Fellow junior Sophia Torres-Reyes added a season-high 13 points and two steals, while graduate student
Bailey Donovan finished with eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Husson closes out the Florida Sunshine Shootout on Friday when it battles No. 15 Amherst College with tipoff set for noon.
