WILLIMANTIC, Conn. - The Husson University men's swimming & diving team fell to Eastern Connecticut State University, 157-101, on Saturday morning inside the Sports Center Pool on the campus of Eastern Connecticut State University.
Sophomores
Alex Walsh,
Brady Hand,
Brayden Champlin and
Ryan Emerson opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, swimming a time of 1:43.51.
Junior
Nathan Gilliam (11:04.83) raced out to a second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle before Emerson out touched Eastern Connecticut State's junior Ben D'Addario by .24 one hundredth of a second to win the 200-yard freestyle. Emerson finished the race with a 1:54.56 and sophomore
Sam Peiser finished fourth at 1:59.88.
Walsh captured a victory for the Eagles in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.10. Junior
Isaias Therio (1:02.07) and sophomore
Jacob Brown (1:09.28) finished fourth and fifth in the event.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Hand and senior
Ben Carusi earned a second-place and fourth-place finishes with times of 1:06.01 and 1:13.78. Junior
Hunter Jackson took runner-up honors in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:15.26.
Champlin (23.73), Peiser (23.85) and Brown (25.92) all finished second, third and sixth in the 50-yard freestyle.
Next, Peiser (53.04) and Therio (53.22) earned third and fourth place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle.
Walsh won the 200-yard backstroke for the Eagles with a time of 2:05.43 and Jackson was fifth in the event with a 2:21.95.
Emerson took second (2:32.33) and Carusi (2:47.84) was fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke before Gilliam won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:22.66. Brown placed fourth in the event with a 6:14.35.
Hand and Champlin went second and third in the 100-yard butterfly with respective times of 56.22 and 59.68.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Emerson finished second at 2:09.56 and Gilliam placed fifth with a time of 2:16.91.
Husson finished the day by winning the 400-yard freestyle relay with Walsh, Champlin, Peiser and Hand with a time of 3:24.26. The relay team of Brown, Carusi, Jackson and Therio finished fourth with a 3:45.54.
The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 12 p.m. when they take on Gordon College in a dual meet inside Webber Pool.
